Strygwyr, the Bloodseeker: Skills and Item Build Guide — DotA 1

Strygwyr, the Bloodseeker, is a relentless Agility-based melee ganker and carry in DotA 1, feared for his ability to hunt down wounded prey across the map. Excelling as a single-target assassin and snow-balling semi-carry, Bloodseeker thrives on the shedding of blood. His core strength lies in his highly balanced attribute spread—anchored by a remarkably high base Strength that grants him early-game survivability and an exceptional Agility growth rate that guarantees rapid physical scaling as the match progresses.

3. Hero Skills Breakdown

1. Bloodrage

Drives a unit into a bloodthirsty rage during which a unit deals, and takes, increased damage. Heroes affected by Bloodrage will be healed for portion of the max HP of any units they kill. Heroes affected by Bloodrage when killed will heal portion of their max HP to their killer as well. If you do not get the last hit, but are within an area of effect of the dying hero, you will take half of the heal amount.

  • Mechanic Type: Target Unit Buff/Debuff
  • Healing sharing AoE: 300
  • Shared healing percentage: 50% (if within AoE of a dying hero without getting the last hit)
Level Outgoing Damage % Incoming Damage % Max HP Heal % Duration Cooldown Manacost
1 +12% +10% 10% 9 seconds 9 sec 0
2 +18% +14% 15% 10 seconds 8 sec 0
3 +24% +18% 20% 11 seconds 7 sec 0
4 +30% +22% 25% 12 seconds 6 sec 0

2. Blood Rite

Bloodseeker baptizes an area in sacred blood. After a delay the ritual completes, causing any enemies caught in the area to take pure damage and become silenced.

  • Damage Type: Pure
  • Effect Type: Silence / Ground Target AoE
  • Ritual Delay: 2.6 seconds
Level Pure Damage Silence Duration Cooldown Manacost
1 125 3 seconds 12 sec 70
2 175 4 seconds 12 sec 80
3 225 5 seconds 12 sec 90
4 275 6 seconds 12 sec 100

3. Strygwyr's Thirst

Enables Bloodseeker to sense enemy Heroes whose HP is below a certain threshold wherever they are, giving him True Sight on that unit. Passively increases Movement speed and increases attack speed for every missing HP point per every enemy hero, which is below another threshold of maximum life. Removes Movement speed cap for Bloodseeker.

  • True Sight Activation Threshold: Enemy HP must be below 25%
  • Stat Boost Activation Threshold: Enemy HP must be below 75%
  • Passive Mechanics: Grants True Sight on low HP units, removes the maximum movement speed cap
Level Attack Speed per 5% Missing HP Move Speed per 5% Missing HP Max AS Limit (per hero) Max MS Limit (per hero) Cooldown Manacost
1 3 AS 1.2% MS 30 AS 12% MS Passive 0
2 4.5 AS 2.4% MS 45 AS 24% MS Passive 0
3 6 AS 3.6% MS 60 AS 36% MS Passive 0
4 7.5 AS 4.8% MS 75 AS 48% MS Passive 0

4. Rupture

Deals damage to an enemy unit based on how much distance it traverses. Damage is pure. If target blinks or moves too fast in a brief moment, it won't receive damage.

  • Damage Type: Pure
  • Blink/Max Speed Threshold: Moving more than 1300 distance within 0.25 seconds deals no damage
  • Duration: 12 seconds
  • Aghanim's Scepter Upgrade: Grants 2 charges of Rupture. Charge replenish time matches the ability's cooldown.
Level Distance-to-Damage Ratio Cooldown Manacost
1 33% 60 sec 100
2 44% 60 sec 150
3 55% 60 sec 200

4. Item Build Guide

Phase Recommended Items Strategic Purpose
Early Game Phase Boots, Stout Shield, Magic Wand Phase Boots maximize Strygwyr's chase potential and damage output. Stout Shield mitigates incoming damage during aggressive lane harassment, while Magic Wand ensures clutch burst healing and mana.
Core Items Black King Bar (BKB), Sange and Yasha, Aghanim's Scepter Black King Bar is vital to avoid being disabled during ganks. Sange and Yasha provides excellent overall stats, maim utility, and crucial raw move speed. Aghanim's Scepter unlocks two charges of Rupture, completely shutting down multiple mobile targets in team fights.
Late Game Butterfly, Abyssal Blade, Radiance Butterfly maximizes your Agility growth, boosting your evasion and attack speed exponentially. Abyssal Blade guarantees hard lockdown on magic-immune targets, and Radiance synergizes perfectly with the amplifications of Bloodrage while burning down entire teams during long chases.

5. Quick Gameplay Tips

  • Mind the Blink Mechanics: When hunting highly mobile targets like Queen of Pain or Anti-Mage, apply Rupture strategically. Because the ability deals no damage if the target travels more than 1300 units in 0.25 seconds, a max-range Blink will completely bypass the damage. Wait for them to commit their mobility skill first, or corner them to keep their teleportation distance short.
  • Self-Buffing with Bloodrage: Before securing a last hit on an enemy hero or a massive creep wave, cast Bloodrage on yourself. The increased incoming damage drawback is entirely mitigated once the target dies, instantly restoring up to 25% of your maximum health.
  • The Thirst Engine: Work closely with global or high-burst damage allies (such as Zeus or Invoker). Their global abilities can instantly push enemy health pools below the 75% threshold, activating Strygwyr's Thirst to give you sudden, map-wide bursts of speed and attack power before a team fight even begins.
