Razor, the Lightning Revenant: Skills and Item Build Guide — DotA 1

Razor, the Lightning Revenant, is a highly aggressive Agility-based anti-carry and frontline dominator in DotA 1. Unlike traditional Agility heroes who rely on right-click farming, Razor thrives in the thick of battle, utilizing his immense movement speed and targeted utility to run down fleeing enemies. His core strength lies in his ability to completely neuter enemy physical damage dealers by siphoning their attack power, while simultaneously shattering their armor and unleashing devastating area-of-effect electrical storms.

3. Hero Skills Breakdown

1. Plasma Field

Razor releases a wave of energetic plasma that grows in power as it extends outwards. The plasma deals damage to units both as it expands away from Razor and as it contracts back toward him, temporarily reducing their movement speed upon impact. The further the plasma is from Razor when it strikes, the more potent its energy becomes.

  • Damage Type: Magical
  • Mechanic: Expanding and contracting ring (hits targets up to two times)
  • Scaling Condition: Damage and slow intensity scale based on distance from Razor
  • Stacking Behavior: The movement speed slow stacks if a unit is hit by both the expanding and contracting waves
Level Min Damage (Per Wave) Max Damage (Per Wave) Max Move Speed Slow (Per Wave) Slow Duration Cooldown Manacost
1 30 80 25% 1.5 seconds 14 sec 125
2 50 115 30% 1.5 seconds 14 sec 125
3 70 150 35% 1.5 seconds 14 sec 125
4 90 185 40% 1.5 seconds 14 sec 125

Taps into the energy of a target hero, creating a crackling, charged link between Razor and his foe. As long as this tether is maintained, Razor continuously steals physical attack damage from the target and adds it directly to his own attacks.

  • Mechanic Type: Targeted tether / Buff and Debuff
  • Dispel Condition: Cannot be dispelled by items or spells
  • Break Condition: The tether snaps immediately if the target moves beyond the maximum link distance
  • Maximum Link Distance: 800 units
  • Buff Retention: The stolen damage buff persists for a set time after the draining phase ends
Level Damage Stolen (Per Second) Max Drain Duration Post-Drain Buff Duration Cooldown Manacost
1 7 5 seconds 18 seconds 40 sec 65
2 14 6 seconds 18 seconds 35 sec 65
3 21 7 seconds 18 seconds 30 sec 65
4 28 8 seconds 18 seconds 25 sec 65

3. Storm Surge

Passively electrifies the air around Razor, increasing the movement speed of all nearby allies. Because the storm resonates directly with Razor's malevolent will, he receives double the movement speed benefit from this aura.

  • Ability Type: Passive Aura
  • Area of Effect (AoE): 1200 radius
  • Unique Behavior: Grants exactly double the standard movement speed bonus to Razor himself
Level Allied Movement Speed Bonus Razor Movement Speed Bonus Cooldown Manacost
1 3% 6% Passive 0
2 5% 10% Passive 0
3 7% 14% Passive 0
4 9% 18% Passive 0

4. Eye of the Storm

The Lightning Revenant calls upon a powerful storm of crackling energy that travels with him. The storm seeks out the most heavily injured targets in its vicinity, striking them with armor-shattering blasts of lightning. Additionally, the storm passively shocks enemies who get too close to Razor, even if they are invisible or hidden in the fog of war.

  • Strike Damage Type: Physical (Smashing damage that reduces armor)
  • Passive Zap Damage Type: Magical
  • Targeting Priority: Automatically strikes the target with the lowest current health
  • Passive Trigger Condition: Triggers on any enemy within 500 distance, bypassing line of sight and invisibility
  • Aghanim's Scepter Upgrade: Upgrades the storm to hit two targets simultaneously and allows the lightning strikes to target and damage structures (buildings)
Level Physical Strike Damage Strike Interval Passive Zap Damage (Magical) Storm Duration Cooldown Manacost
1 40 0.7 seconds 60 30 seconds 80 sec 100
2 55 0.6 seconds 100 30 seconds 70 sec 150
3 70 0.5 seconds 140 30 seconds 60 sec 200

4. Item Build Guide

Phase Recommended Items Strategic Purpose
Early Game Phase Boots, Wraith Band, Magic Wand Phase Boots synergize with Storm Surge to guarantee Razor can outrun enemies and maintain Static Link. Wraith Band provides essential early trading stats, and Magic Wand offers clutch burst healing.
Core Items Sange and Yasha, Black King Bar (BKB), Vanguard Sange and Yasha provides incredible movement speed, maim utility, and health. Vanguard makes Razor highly durable while diving towers, and BKB ensures he cannot be stunned or kited while stealing damage.
Late Game Aghanim's Scepter, Assault Cuirass, Heart of Tarrasque Aghanim's Scepter turns Eye of the Storm into a devastating base-sieging tool. Assault Cuirass synergizes with the armor reduction of his ultimate, and Heart of Tarrasque provides the massive health pool necessary to survive in the center of late-game teamfights.

5. Quick Gameplay Tips

  • The Plasma Field "Sweet Spot": Plasma Field deals its maximum damage at the very edge of its radius. To maximize your burst damage, use your massive movement speed advantage to maintain exact distance from your target. Hitting a fleeing enemy with the absolute edge of the expanding wave guarantees they will take maximum damage twice (once expanding, once contracting) while suffering a heavy stacked slow.
  • Unbreakable Static Link: Static Link is your most powerful tool in 1v1 duels. Cast it on the enemy team's primary physical carry, and immediately use your superior movement speed to stay within 800 range. Even if they activate Black King Bar or go invisible, the tether will not break as long as you maintain the distance, rendering their carry entirely useless while turning you into a physical powerhouse.
  • Fog of War Scouting: Do not underestimate the passive component of Eye of the Storm. Because the magical zaps trigger automatically on nearby enemies—regardless of vision or invisibility—you can use it as a radar. If your ultimate suddenly flashes lightning into the trees or up a high-ground cliff, you instantly know an enemy is waiting there to ambush you.
